Pediatric Preventative and Well Child Visits

Newborn (0-2mo) -These visits are often the most stressful for new parents as they are making major adjustments in their lives and homes as they welcome their new baby. Reassurance, teaching and thorough physical examinations help to get the “bundle of joy” off to a fantastic start!

Infant/ Toddler  (2-24mo) - Early monitoring for developmental and nutritional problems happens at these visits as well as a focus on timely vaccinations, safety, normal behaviors and other wellness issues.

Preschool (3-4 years) - Often full of laughter and an occasional surprise from the mouths of these angels, these visits are less stressful (no shots!). A focus on normal development and preparation for school happens now.

Kindergarten (5-6 years) - Probably more stressful on mom than child, these school physicals are required prior to entrance into public school. There are state mandated immunizations and screenings for lead, anemia, vision and hearing problems.

Primary School (6-12 years) - These wellness visits focus on school performance, social development and pre-puberty nutrition. It is often at these visits that emotional and social problems are first identified.

Middle School (12-14 years) - Puberty, Puberty and more Puberty! With a healthy dash of humor and a lighthearted approach, even the most daunting of subjects can be addressed. It is here that more sensitive and personal discussions surrounding topics like sexual activity, drug and alcohol use, gangs, violence and personal safety take place.

High School (15-18 years) - Adolescent physicals tend not to focus much on physical development as much as emotional and psychological changes that are taking place. A strong emphasis on family unity and communication is a big part of these visits as is frank and open discussions about sexual behavior, personal choices and growing independence. This is the time when serious emotional problems like depression, anxiety, and eating disorders can show up.

College ( 18-21 years) – Most of our patients who graduate from high school do not wish to return to us for ongoing primary care, but some do. I welcome college students who are not ready to transition to adult care to continue to see us. Identification of adult, chronic health issues such as diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease, high blood pressure can also begin at these visits.

Sports, Camp, Missionary and College Physicals

These examinations are especially targeted for specific activities and serve as opportunities to screen for medical conditions that will impact the young person’s life.

Sick Visits

As a board certified pediatrician, Dr. Trementozzi is well qualified to evaluate all pediatric health and medical conditions. Most non-emergent, acute visits are managed right in the office with sicker, acute children being transferred to a local emergency room.

Chronic Conditions

Dr. Trementozzi has many years experience managing conditions such as asthma, ADD/ADHD, obesity, constipation, eczema, chronic sinusitis, school problems, failure to gain weight among many others.

Caroline Christian Health Center is located approximately midway between Washington DC and Richmond and is approximately 1 hour from Charlottesville. As such, we have easy access to all pediatric subspecialties. Dr. Trementozzi enjoys good professional relationships with the pediatric departments at all three referral centers.

Vaccinations

All childhood and adolescent vaccinations are offered at the clinic. Dr. Trementozzi closely follows the Center for Disease Control’s recommended childhood immunization schedule for all patients.

Although more than 90% of our patients receive the recommended immunizations, some families chose not to vaccinate. This is a personal choice that is NOT recommended by Dr. Trementozzi. This being said, we will never discriminate in the care that we provide to our patients, based on their vaccination choice. Click here for more information. [ link to CDC section on vaccines]
